JOB TITLE: CONSULTING TEACHER – SPECIAL PROGRAMS
TYPE OF POSITION: Regular, licensed position, 1.0 FTE, 190-day school year contract
SALARY RANGE: $32,718.78 - $61,541.71 (initial placement based on education and experience)

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Perform a variety of tasks to facilitate education of students with low
incidence disabilities in educational settings.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Low-Incidence Program Coordinator
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assess students’ ability to access instruction across a variety of educational settings.
2. Participate as a member of a team (IEP, IFSP, Placement, SST, etc.) and assume appropriate roles: lead, follow, and support others in a productive manner; conduct parent interview and student observation, screening, and assessment as appropriate; and participate in development of goals and objectives.
3. Advise regular and special education staff regarding inclusion techniques and instructional strategies. Assist in program development and implementation to ensure generalization of skills across people, places, events and time and designed to modify student’s behavior, improve student’s communication and language ability, and improve student’s performance in general education programs with curriculum modification.
4. Provide individual and group training to school staff as needed; assist in development and implementation of programs designed to modify student’s behavior and improve student’s communication, language ability and performance in regular programs with curriculum modification.
5. Provide consultation regarding student behavior.
6. Work cooperatively and communicate appropriately with other support staff.
7. Manage daily work schedule utilizing effective time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
8. Consult with and act as a resource to school staff.
9. Recommend appropriate classroom materials and equipment; assist school staff in ordering, using and maintaining them.
10. Maintain on-going rapport with school staff regarding student performance and progress.
11. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as directed.
12. Accurately and effectively communicate the role of the ESD and the scope of its programs to families, school, and agency personnel.
13. Complete required reports and other forms promptly and in an acceptable manner.
14. Assist district personnel regarding special education laws, rules, policies, procedures, and trends.
15. Use skills such as originality and appropriate technology to create high quality learning for students.
16. Analyzes the effectiveness, appropriateness, and usefulness of strategies and practices used with students, parents, and staff; provide evaluation and monitoring as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of etiology, characteristics, and prognosis of major handicapping conditions (especially for
students with Autism Spectrum Disorder).
2. Knowledge of laws, rules, policies, and trends regarding instruction of students with disabilities.
3. Knowledge of a variety of evaluation techniques to assess Autism Spectrum Disorder eligibility criteria.
4 Knowledge of normal developmental sequences and learning patterns.
5. Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
6. Knowledge of communication techniques.
7. Knowledge of local resources available to persons with disabilities.
8. Knowledge regarding the efficacy of inclusive strategies.
9. Ability to develop appropriate curriculum.
10. Ability to work as part of multidisciplinary team.
11. Advanced training or Master’s Degree in special education.
12. Certification in severely handicapped, handicapped learner, physically handicapped, or mentally
retarded.
13. Experience in teaching students with severe physical disabilities and/or experience providing
comprehensive evaluations and data-based interventions to students with Autism Spectrum
Disorder.
14. Possess or quickly acquire basic technology skills, including e-mail, and use word processing,
spreadsheet, and/or database software to the extent necessary to efficiently accomplish the duties of the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. In an eight hour day employee may stand/walk 3-5 hours; sit 3-5 hours; drive1-3 hours.
2. Employee may use hands for repetitive single grasping and fine manipulation.
3. Employee may need to bend and squat frequently and climb stairs and lift occasionally.
4. Light work: lifting 20 pounds occasionally.
